Managing an Effective Physical Security Program
November 7th and 8th, 2011
Reno, NV
Learn how to:
· Develop and deploy a successful framework for a physical security program.
· Learn best practices.
· Improve your security program.
Presented by the ASIS Foundation and the Northern Nevada Chapter as winner of the 2011 Roy Bordes Physical Security Award.
Managing an effective physical security program requires a clear and defined approach. From conducting an initial risk assessment to making and presenting a business case, and everything in between, security professionals need to be at their best to meet a seemingly endless barrage of unexpected challenges. Whether you’ve taken on new security responsibilities, are an integrator or a professional who wants to polish up your skills, this course is designed for you.
Break it down: the first step in analyzing any physical security challenge is conducting a vulnerability and/or risk assessment. Once done, the next challenge lies in designing efficient solutions, then finally preparing the business case to integrate with your overall security plan. Are you prepared to respond when your CSO asks you to justify your operation, manage your risks, and juggle the demands of keeping current?
Learn from seasoned practitioners how to survive in this rapidly-changing environment, benefit from their successes and failures, and learn about the techniques and metrics that can move your program to the next level.
IMMEDIATE BENEFITS
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Conducting a Vulnerability/Risk Assessment - Gain an overview and methodology for assessing risks, then learn how to apply it to the planning, implementation, and management of an effective program.
Security Countermeasures and their Selection – Better understand security technology subsystems. Examine how specific security countermeasures are derived from functional security requirements. Achieve a comprehensive program by learning how to build a layered security solution.
Security Design Process – Learn to structure successful internal design processes by applying sound engineering analysis, project management skills, and proven architectural techniques. Develop a responsive security system design project on time and within budget.
Value Engineering and Cost Estimation – Explore how to control costs through proper planning and design, thereby avoiding rework and achieving optimum equipment utilization, manpower reduction, and proper use of consultants.
Preparing and Presenting a Security Business Case – Discuss security’s role in ROI and examine the various techniques and information you need to successfully present and defend your security business case. Once you have a design budget, recommendations and a risk prevention and mitigation plan, learn how to get approval and a sufficient capital budget from management.
Security Organization and Master Plan – Learn the value of a security master plan and how it guides the entire security organization. Discuss when a typical program is developed, how it’s maintained and who is responsible.
Security Metrics and System Management Dashboard – Develop a dashboard and metrics that are critical to evaluating the performance of an operational system.
Legal/Liability Issues - How do operations, maintenance, training, staffing, systems (and lack thereof) impact liability?
Break Out Sessions/Hands-On Exercises – Develop and refine operational programs through hands-on exercises. Apply the information learned in a critical thinking exercise.
Panel Discussion – A unique opportunity to discuss lessons learned between integrators and end users. Discuss what it takes to foster a healthy, successful, long-term partnership.
